Advice for Brides-to-Be
If your budget allows for it, hire a wedding planner. We hired a "day-of-coordinator" and felt that it was the best investment that we made. I loved wedding planning, and really wanted to do that on my own... we just wanted someone to be there on the day of the wedding to make sure that everything went smoothly and was taken care of. Needless to say, it was and we didn't have to worry about a thing!
Don't leave any projects to be done too close to the wedding. I made sure I was on top of everything, and had it all done the week before the wedding so that I could enjoy every moment leading up to the big day. The time leading up to the wedding is just as exciting as the day itself, don't bog yourself down with projects that could have been done weeks ago!
Plan your day so that you have plenty of time, and wont feel rushed. The day goes by quick enough as it is, you don't want to be so busy, overwhelmed and rushed that you miss everything. We started our day at the salon around 8am and at first I thought that was waaaaaaay to darn early, but it setup the rest of the day to be so much more enjoyable!
Have someone in your bridal party be in charge of a personal camera. Our photographer did not meet up with us until after we were all dressed, so we don't have any professional pictures of the ladies at the salon or of everyone in the limo. My maid-of-honor was AMAZING and was sure to bring along her own personal digital camera, she took tons of pictures that the photographer simply was not able to.
If possible, ask to see your reception all setup before any of the guests are allowed to enter the room. This was by far the most amazing moment of the day for me. After a year of grueling planning, I got so see my vision and my dream come to life in a single moment! After we had a moment alone in the room, we also ask our photographer to come into the room to get some pictures.
Having a sweetheart table was one of the best decisions we made, and not for the reason(s) we had thought. We had originally wanted to allow our bridal party to sit with their significant others, and this was just not possible with a traditional head table. So we decided on a sweetheart table with two bridal party tables off to each side. This worked out great because our bridal party was happy, and we got to sit and really take in everything. Sitting just the two of you as husband and wife, looking around the room at all of your hard work and planning, and all of your guests is just an amazing sight.
DANCE! It's so easy to get caught up in your guests and separated from each other... link arms and hold on for dear life all night long! Take some time for yourselves and go have a moment alone, have a dance together (other than your first one). It's your party, enjoy it!
Finally, savor every single moment... because it really does go by in the blink of an eye!
