Do-It-Yourself wedding invitations may be less expensive than custom printed invites, but they’re often a huge headache for those who lack Martha Stewart-like skills. And if you’re buying all of your materials at the local craft store, the actual savings probably won’t be all that great.
That’s why I love the DIY invites from Formal-Invitations.com. Start by browsing their many samples to find a style and color scheme that suits your wedding. Then order all of the necessary materials, including glue sticks, right from their site. The best part? Most styles cost less than $1 per invite, including a background card, overlay, embellishment and envelope. Reply cards, outer envelopes, and envelope liners are extra, though still inexpensive.
Once you’ve purchased all of the necessary materials, you can download printable templates and watch step-by-step video demonstrations to help you with assembly. Bonus: Formal-Invitations.com. offers dozens of recycles and tree-free papers.

If your hubby-to-be is a Yankees or Cubs fans, check out these unique cuff links from eco-artware.com. The diamond-shaped cuff links, set in sterling silver, are made from actual seats removed during the renovation of New York’s Yankee Stadium and Chicago’s Wrigley Field. I can’t think of a more original, eco-friendly gift for a baseball lover!

Usings lots of candles is a fabulous way to create a warm, romantic ambiance at your ceremony or reception. But burning traditional paraffin candles, releases soot and chemicals which pollute the air and your body. To protect the environment and your guests, opt for “clean” burning soy or beeswax candles instead.

Showering the bride and groom in traditional confetti is bad for the environment, difficult to clean up, and prohibited by a lot of wedding venues. Ecofetti, available in several bright and pastel colors, is a great alternative. It’s water soluble and biodegradable, so it’s eco-friendly and can simply be hosed away. Plus, because it’s so light-weight, it floats in the air making for really neat wedding photos. Each 3 cup bag of Ecofetti is $7.95.

The average wedding guest will go through 3 or more cocktail napkins during your reception. That’s a lot of waste. The most eco-friendly alternative is to use cloth cocktail napkins. Otherwise, these recycled napkins from For Your Party are a good choice. Made from 100% recycled paper, and chlorine and bleach free, the white 2-ply napkins can be customized with up to three lines of text and a graphic. Minimum order is 50 napkins for $25, but you can get 100 for just $29.
